The roof of your house is the most important and essential part. Sometimes we don’t check or investigate small causes and how to maintain which end up replacing the whole roof. It is very costly if you need to do so. To prevent this, you can check the roof conditions on a regular basis such as yearly tracking the roof’s condition, any damage, and cleaning.

Here are some tips you can follow to maintain your roof:

  1. Develop a practice to check the roof shingles every year or weather. You may find some loose shingles or some damaged areas. Replacing the loose shingles and fixing up the small damages can be helpful to end up in bigger problems. 
  2. Sometimes a tree or its branches can damage the roof and gutters. Commonly the debris from the tree can get collected on the roof surface and clog the gutters. It happens when the tree branches are very close to the roof  So, they should be trimmed from time to time. 
  3. Fungi are also a very common cause of to damage the roof. It grows easily on the roof especially where it’s moistened. If the fungus stays there for a long time it can cause damage to the roof. It should be removed from time to time to prevent the roof damage.
  4. Gutters are drains connected to the roof and their job is to collect debris and moisture. They are very helpful to extend the lifespan of the roof but most of the time it gets clogged due to some debris. So, it’s very important to clean them regularly.
  5. Flashing secures the vent pipes and chimney and prevent any water leakages in the house. Check and make sure the flashing is in good condition and if needed replace it with a new one.
  6. Sun is another cause of roof shingles damages. Due to high sunlight, it can damage some shingles and you can’t control that. But you can apply a UV protective layer to reduce the heat damage.
  7. Try to keep your nice and clean regularly by removing any tree leaves and debris from the wind. 
  8. You should hire a roofing contractor every 2 years or so to inspect the roof thoroughly. It helps you find out if there are any cracks or leaks and provides you with fixes. 

Replacing the whole roof is very expensive but if you practice the above tips to do some small repairs you can save money.
